Trip, a young woman skilled in technology, has been imprisoned by a slave ship, but manages to escape using her mental abilities. The monkey, a strong and brutal loner, a fellow prisoner, also manages to free himself by virtue of his strength and raw muscles. Trip quickly realizes that Monkey is her ticket to freedom and is her only hope of surviving the dangerous journey back home. She chops a slave headband and matches it to Monkey, tying them together. If she dies, he dies too, and her journey has now become his.
