Greek states share a number of common goals and general diplomatic goals. However, they are defined by their fierce independence and demonstrate a wide variety of approaches to civilian and military challenges that often bring them into conflict with the wider world.

New playable factions - Athens, Epirus and Sparta each offer a unique new way to experience the campaign, with their own lists of powerful military units, distinct features and styles of play.

The Athenian search for enlightenment gives them technological and cultural bonuses; Sparta's domination of the Greeks allows them to maintain a larger slave population; and Epirus enjoys bonuses for the exploitation of settlements that derive from their origins as village confederations.

Greek states have their own new set of conditions for military, economic and cultural victory, as well as sharing a unique set of bonus objectives drawn from Greek history. In addition, each faction will have to face its unique events and dilemmas.
