Venice was at the height of its power during the Renaissance and was seen as a city of decadence, beauty and intrigue. Renowned as the pivot of civilization and the cultural center of Europe, Venice was the most important trading point between Western Europe and the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. It was also the scene of political corruption and clandestine affairs. This is where your story begins. As a young man who strives for success, power, and wealth with the support of your family, you begin to build a commercial empire in Genoa, Tripoli, Rome, Alexandria, and Constantinople, among many other important Renaissance cities. As you progress through Venetian society, increasing your power with clever business moves and resorting to occasional favors, you can begin to assemble your own fleet. With its help you will start to build new production facilities, to test yourself in difficult battles at sea, where you will face pirates, but also political enemies, to eventually become Doge of Venice.
